In a city that prides itself on living out loud,
a quiet yet refined refuge has emerged from all of the distractions that define its desert
oasis. Bauman Rare Books offers discriminating antiquarian book collectors first editions
ranging from the 15th - 20th centuries. During an exclusive private cocktail party, I had
the privilege of viewing the Gutenberg Bible. The Gutenberg Bible was printed by Johannes
Gutenberg in 1455 in Mainz, Germany. It was the first major book printed with a movable type
printing press, marking the start of the "Gutenberg Revolution" and the age of the 42-line
book. Gutenberg produced 180 copies of the Bible and only 21 complete editions exist today.
They are considered the most expensive books on the market; estimated at $25-35 million.
My inspiration: fine leather-bound books and turning the delicate handmade pages of the
historic Gutenberg Bible.
